Selling digital downloads on Etsy
Digital products — printables, templates, SVGs, presets — are listed once and sold unlimited times with no per-order work or shipping. After Etsy’s fees you keep most of every sale, which is why margins look so different from physical goods. The one thing to watch is Offsite Ads: if a sale comes through Etsy’s external advertising, 15% comes off the top — or 12% once your shop has passed $10,000 in any 365-day period, at which point the programme is no longer optional.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my digital product profit so high?
Digital downloads have no materials, printing or shipping cost, so after Etsy’s fees you keep roughly 75–90% of the sale price depending on your price point — the flat $0.20 listing and $0.25 processing fees weigh more on cheaper items, so a $3 download keeps about 75% while a $20 one keeps about 88%. That is still the big appeal of selling digital.
What fees apply to Etsy digital downloads?
The same as physical items minus shipping: a $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, and payment processing (3% + $0.25 in the US). Offsite Ads add a further 15% — or 12% once your shop has made $10,000 in any 365-day period — but only on sales that came from Etsy’s external ads.
